I stepped foot into my first marijuana facility on Saturday night in Natick, not as a customer, but to check out a private concert being performed by local indie band Air Traffic Controller.
Bountiful Farms, the medical marijuana dispensary that opened last year on Mercer Road behind Rte. 9, hosted the “Homegrown Music Showcase” for clients and friends/family of the band. Cannabis companies that have pitched Natick to operate here needed to make community service and education a big part of their business plans, though this was really more of a customer appreciation event.
Bountiful made water and snacks, plus swag, available to attendees at the 21-plus event (no cannabis consumption allowed on the property).

It was fun chatting with band members before and after the show, which included lots of original songs, a couple of numbers from a forthcoming album, and a couple of covers. I’m familiar with the band’s music, and have written about it before on The Swellesley Report because a Wellesley High teacher has performed with Air Traffic Controller.
I was pleased on Saturday with a cover of the Pixies’ “Here Comes Your Man,” after coincidentally talking about that same band with Air Traffic Controller’s Dave Munro right before the set.
Fittingly, they ended by covering Credence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” on the eve of tropical storm Henri blowing into town.
