Natick Select Board Karen Adelman-Foster made a surprise “happy and sad” announcement at Wednesday night’s meeting that she is resigning her position to work for State Sen. Karen Spilka, who seeks re-election this fall in the 2nd Middlesex and Norfolk district. Adelman-Foster will take on the role of director of community engagement and municipal policy.
Adelman-Foster’s announcement that she’ll be working for the senate president comes just a little more than a week after Natick’s town election that saw two new members join the Board.
Adelman-Foster, who had been chair of the Board until the election, had been serving her second term and it was to have extended until March of 2023. She has a long record of civic engagement in town, including on the School Committee and Town Meeting. Outside of the Select Board she has been a communications strategist for the Metropolitan Area Planning Council.
The Select Board could call a special election to replace Adelman-Foster on its roster, or wait until the general election next March.
