When I received an emailed reminder that my library card would expire soon, I figured that was the end of my vintage blue card, originally procured at Morse Institute Library in Natick more than 10 years ago.
But nope, when I showed up at the Wellesley Free Library check-out desk they just verified some info and said my taped together piece of plastic was good for another 5 years if I really wanted to hold onto it. I could get a new card, but the number would change.
Given that this is one of the few numbers I somehow have burned into my brain, I figured I’d stick with my old card.
Which got me thinking about why I’m lugging a card around at all instead of just using an app, which of course exists. You can add the Minuteman Mobile App to your phone if you have your library card number.
So now I’m double covered.
If you don’t have a card, you can sign up for one at your local library with a photo ID and proof of address.
