While I don’t make a habit of reviewing Natick Zoning Board of Appeals agendas, it’s August…it’s slow on the news front.
But jeez, the Aug. 28 agenda caught my eye. Or more specifically, the mention of the word “demolition” in 8 separate agenda items did. A couple are continuations, but the 8 mentions of “demolition” is by far the most on any ZBA agenda this year, surpassing the 5 from July.
The action, if approved, is slated for North Main Street, Bradford Road, Stanley Street, Emerson Street, Westlake Road, Beverley Road, Harwood Road, and Washington Street. Most involve tear downs on nonconforming lots, with plans for new single-family homes.

And so go the so called affordable housing stock.
If these demolitions are approved over the objections of the neighbors, as they were in July, even more homes in Natick will be subjected to taller, larger houses overlooking their neighbors’ backyards. And , where our houses are close together, shading whatever they have planted in their side yards. All of the RG zone–all of ‘Natick’s historic, old neighborhoods–fits that description.
