Although the Sumner Tunnel is located in Boston, not Natick, its periodic fall 2023 closures can be a pain point for Natick residents trying to catch flights out of Logan International Airport.
The Sumner Tunnel will next be closed the weekend of October 27, 2023.
The tunnel will close on Friday, Oct. 26, at 11pm and reopen to traffic on Monday, Oct. 30 at 5am. Traffic will be diverted through signed detour routes.
The 88 year-0ld tunnel is the most direct route from Natick center to Logan International Airport. Typically, it takes about 40 minutes to drive the distance of 16 miles.
On the days that the tunnel is closed, make sure to give yourself an hour or more to drive from Natick center to the airport. Very inconvenient, but infrastructure projects—what can you do?
We’re big fans of the Logan Express bus out of Framingham. They do the driving, we relax.
Check out our Natick Transportation page for information on other getting-around options such as
- MBTA Commuter rail (West Natick and Natick center stations)
- Natick Commuter bus shuttle
- MWRTA Catch Connect
- MWRTA Hospital shuttle
- Natick Connector
- and more options for seniors
