MassDOT public hearing set for Cochituate Rail Trail extension in Natick

October 20, 2023 by Bob Brown

A public hearing will be held at Natick Town Hall on Oct. 30 (6:30pm) by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to present an overview of a proposed 0.4-mile extension of the shared-use Cochituate Rail Trail along Rte. 9 to Archer Drive, not far from Speen Street.

According to the MassDOT posting,  “A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands.”

The MassDOT site states describes the multimillion project in more detail. The design funding for the path is being paid with state funds, while the construction cost is 80% federal and 20% state funded.

Construction is planned to start in spring of 2025.
