Cochituate Rail Trail back in action near former Loker Street Bridge

August 29, 2025 by Admin

From MassDOT:

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that the demolition of the Loker Street Pedestrian Bridge has been completed and the segment of the Cochituate Rail Trail in Natick between Bacon Street and Fisher Street will be reopened today at 3:00 p.m.

Findings from a bridge inspection earlier this month required the closure of the pedestrian bridge. MassDOT’s contractors have been undertaking bridge demolition and removal operations over the last two weeks to allow the rail trail segment that was temporarily closed to be reopened in advance of the holiday weekend.

Our sharp-eyed guy in the field earlier in the day had reported to us that there was a lot of activity going on at both ends of where the trail has been cordoned off, and workers were removing a large motorized lift platform from the Bacon Street entrance.
