Restoration and preservation work is underway on the historic Bacon Free Library fence, with the bulk of money for the project coming from Community Preservation Act funding approved last fall by Natick Town Meeting.
The cast iron cross and arrow fence was erected in 1870, and the restoration and preservation effort involves removal of deteriorated paint and corrosion and the application of a marine-grade finish assuring the integrity and longevity of the fence for the future.
The project is expected to stretch into the fall.
It is indeed the summer of construction in South Natick, with the spillway at the Charles River dam also set to be removed.
