Natick’s ARPA Bill earmarks include support for remote meetings, mental health services, accessibility, housing authority

December 28, 2021 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

While much of the funding appropriated under the nearly $4B ARPA Bill (formally, Chapter 102 of the Acts of 2021) signed this month by Gov. Charlie Baker goes to underserved communities, Natick has not been left out, and that includes those in town most negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The funding comes from the state revenue surplus and federal programs.

Natick’s $500,000-plus chunk includes the following:

  • not less than $200,000 shall be expended for the town of Natick to improve the town’s website, enhance the town’s remote meeting capabilities and provide technological upgrades within the town hall building and other town buildings for remote meetings and remote participation
  • not less than $150,000 shall be expended for the town of Natick to conduct a study on improving the integration and accessibility of human services in the town
  • not less than $100,000 shall be expended for the Natick Housing Authority to provide upgrades at housing facilities, including improvements related to kitchens, generators emergency management, and accessibility
  • not less than $150,000 shall be expended for the Natick public schools for after-school tutoring support and mental health services

New signs of COVID times in Natick

September 14, 2021 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

While you can definitely have too many signs, Natick businesses and the town itself are putting aside any such aesthetic concerns in the name of public communications and safety.

Regardless of whether you’re vaccinated, the message in town is to mask up definitely or maybe when inside shops and definitely in town buildings.

The only kind of sign possibly more prevalent in Natick than mask signs are hiring ones. Employees would appear to have the upper hand—negotiate hard!

The only thing more in demand than employees? Cars.

Finally, we ask about this sign. How do returning customers get in?

Natick COVID-19 update: Young residents push overall vax rate higher

September 14, 2021 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

The share of Natick’s eligible population fully vaccinated against COVID-19 has surpassed 87%, bolstered by rising vaccination rates among the youngest eligible residents, according to weekly data released by the state.  The percentage of 12-15-year-olds vaccinated has risen from 80% to 84% over the past few weeks, while more than 95% of 16-19-year-olds in Natick have been fully vaxxed.

Now 75% of Natick’s population has been fully vaccinated, but that includes those under the age of 12 who are not eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations.

More than 27,000 of about 31,000 Natick residents eligible for the vaccine have now been fully inoculated, and the state has surpassed 4.5 million fully vaccinated against the disease. About 500 Natick residents have joined the ranks of fully vaccinated over the past few weeks.

Natick has instituted a face covering mandate for those working at and visiting town buildings.

Natick COVID-19 update: Youth vaccination numbers encouraging as school start looms

August 23, 2021 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

The share of Natick’s eligible population fully vaccinated against COVID-19 has surpassed 86%, bolstered by rising vaccination rates among the youngest eligible residents, according to weekly data released by the state.  The percentage over 12-15-year-olds vaccinated rose from 78% to 80% over the past week, while more than 95% of 16-19-year-olds in Natick have been fully vaxxed.

This all bodes well as Natick Public Schools ready to reopen at the start of September, with new testing plans in place.

Now 74% of Natick’s population has been fully vaccinated, but that includes those under the age of 12 who are not eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations.

More than 26,600 of about 31,000 Natick residents eligible for the vaccine have now been fully vaccinated, and the state has surpassed 4.4 million fully vaccinated against the disease. More than 100 Natick residents joined the ranks of fully vaccinated over the past week.

Natick this month instituted a face covering mandate for those working at and visiting town buildings.
