Natick COVID-19 update: Nearly half of 16-29-year-olds fully vaccinated

May 20, 2021 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

The share of Natick’s population fully vaccinated against COVID-19 has jumped from 51% to at least 55% over the past week, according to weekly data released by the state. The data is murkier than in past weeks because 12-15-year-olds have started to get vaccinated, and because fewer than 30 had in Natick at the time the data was released, it has been suppressed to protect privacy.

Nearly 20,000 Natick residents have now been fully vaccinated, and the state has exceeded 3.3 million fully vaccinated against the disease.

Natick now boasts 71% of its population with at least 1 dose, up a smidgen from 69% a week ago. The percentage of those vaccinated in the 65-74 and 75-plus age groups remained at 91% and 88%, respectively. Now 70% of those in the 50-64 age bracket are now fully vaxxed, and two-thirds in the 30-49 age category has been fully vaccinated. Nearly half of both 16-19 and 20-29-year-olds have been fully vaccinated, too.

Natick’s Health Department is now out of the COVID-19 vaccine game, though the Natick Mall has been busy doling out vaccines as one of the state’s mass vaccination sites, especially now that you can walk in and get a shot without an appointment. The mall vaccination site is set to close by the end of June. Those age 12 and over are now eligible for vaccinations.

Natick’s daily COVID-19 case incidence rate per 100,000 people has dropped into the single digits. Natick Public Schools and the Health Department are requiring students taking part in extracurricular activities, including sports, to participate in pooled COVID-19 testing.

Natick Public Schools is teaming with a pharmacy to hold a vaccine clinic for those 12 and older on May 23.

Natick Mall COVID-19 vaccination site closing by end of June

May 3, 2021 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

The COVID-19 vaccination site at Natick Mall will closed by the end of June as the state refocuses on delivering vaccines through more regional, targeted facilities.

The Natick Mall site opened in February, initially offering 500 doses per day, then ramping up to thousands per day. Vaccines have been administered by appointment only, and have become increasingly available. Walk-in vaccinations will soon be available as well.

The state will redeploy vaccines to regional sites, especially those serving communities where vaccination uptake has been low.

The mass vaccination sites at Gillette Stadium, Hynes Convention Center, and Double Tree in Danvers are also closing.

Nearly 40% of Natick’s population had been vaccinated as of last Thursday, when the state issued its weekly numbers.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 3.9 million people in Massachusetts have been fully or partially vaccinated.
