1 in 5 Natick residents now fully vaccinated against COVID-19

April 1, 2021 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

The new state COVID-19 vaccination data shows that 20% of Natick residents have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and that 38% have had at least 1 shot. Those numbers are up over the past week from 17% and 33%, respectively.

The biggest percentage jump among age groups was seen in the 65-74 range, with the percentage of those fully vaccinated rising from 36% to 52% over the past week.

3.5 million doses have been dispensed statewide, and more than 1.3 million people have been fully vaccinated.

Natick’s Health Department finishes up its second doses of vaccines for Natick Housing Authority residents this week, and these three clinics will be it for vaccinations distributed by the town unless the state’s plans change at all. Director of Public Health Jim White said during the Board of Health meeting this week that the town made the hard decision to cede dispensing vaccines to the homebound in Natick to the state, finding that the state’s protocols for who qualifies as homebound would have eliminated about 85%-90% of those who signed up through Natick. The majority of other communities have taken the same route, he said.

Natick COVID-19 vaccination update: A third of residents have had at least 1 shot

March 26, 2021 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

The percentage of Natick residents fully vaccinated against COVID-19 rose from 15% to 17% over the past week, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. More than four out of five residents age 65-74 have had at least one dose, and 93% of those 75-plus have had at least one dose.

Across the state, more than 1.1 million people have been fully vaccinated. Natick residents account for 6,114 of them, and another 5,652 Natick residents are partially vaccinated. Overall, a third of Natick residents have had at least one dose (some of a one-dose vaccine, some of a two-dose vaccine).

In addition to breaking out municipal vaccination numbers by age, the state has statistics on vaccinations by what it categorizes as ethnicity and race, and sex.

The Natick Mall mass vaccination site has allowed residents to get shots close to home, and the CVS on Rte. 135 is joining in the action as well we hear. Natick Health Department officials wish they could play a bigger role in dispensing vaccines, but the state has largely handed that role over to mass vaccination sites and commercial operators such as CVS.

All Massachusetts residents can preregister to book an appointment at a mass vaccination site at mass.gov/COVIDVaccine.  Appointments will be offered based on eligibility and available appointments nearby.

Natick’s current COVID-19 numbers in key areas such as average cases and positivity rates are slightly higher than state averages.

Timeline for remaining groups:

  • April 5th: Residents 55+ and residents with one certain medical condition
  • April 19th: General public ages 16 years of age and older
