$25K grant to cover thermal imaging cameras for Natick firefighters

January 21, 2022 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Natick firefighters has upgraded its thermal imaging cameras thanks to a $25,000 grant through the state’s Department of Fire Services.

Such equipment enables firefighters to see areas of heat that they couldn’t perceive with the naked eye, and detect people and animals in smoky or burning environments.

“We have had them for many years. They are getting beyond their life expectancy and simply need replacing,” Chief Michael Lentini says. “The technology does get better every model year. So we have that advantage with this grant  opportunity.”

More than 300 fire departments across the state received a total of $5 million in grants, with a maximum amount per community based on population.

Fire extinguished at Natick High, investigation is on

November 20, 2021 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

The Natick Police Department shared the following message from Natick Public Schools Supt. Dr. Anna Nolin & the school system issued Friday after school let out:

Natick community members ,

We’re writing today to make you aware of an incident that occurred after high school dismissal today.
At 2:50 pm today, a fire was discovered in the boys’ locker room at Natick High School. We immediately pulled the fire alarm, extinguished the fire and safely evacuated the building. The Natick Fire Department and the Natick Police Department responded immediately and professionally. We appreciate the hard work of our first responders, today and every day. The building has been reopened for student and staff use.
The fire occurred after high school dismissal/during preschool pickup. At the time there were approximately 50 high school students and staff members in the building. We are investigating this event for what it is – a fire that was deliberately set by a member of our student body putting everyone at risk. The police are conducting a complete investigation for possible criminal charges.
We are furious and very disappointed. We are a strong and vibrant community that looks out for one another. After two very long years of isolation, we are determined to reclaim our culture of togetherness, safety and respect. Acts like this will not be tolerated. We will hold the students who set this fire fully accountable.
If you know anything about this event, please report it through our anonymous tip line at: https://www.natickps.org/contact_us/speakupnatick. The schools will follow up on any and all reports.
