Natick 180 invites you to learn about Mobile Health Van

Natick 180 is hosting an online community forum on on Sept. 9 from 7-8:30pm to share information about a new mobile health resource in MetroWest called the Rise On Mobile Health Van.

The van is equipped to provide basic health services such as COVID-19 vaccination clinics, connection to treatment for substance use and/or mental health, referrals for social services, health screenings and testing for sexually transmitted infections such as HIV and Hepatitis C, and harm reduction services such as overdose prevention training, naloxone (Narcan) distribution, and a syringe service program.

West Nile Virus risk level in Natick up to moderate

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has raised the West Nile Virus risk level from low to moderate in Natick after mosquito samples in neighboring communities tested positive. The virus, usually transmitted to humans via mosquito bites, can cause serious illness.

Three human cases of West Nile Virus have been reported in the state, all in Middlesex County, of which Natick is part. Though no positive samples have been collected yet in Natick itself. Positive samples have been identified in neighboring Wellesley, part of Norfolk County.

The mosquitos that carry the virus have thrived in the damp and humid conditions locally this summer.

Registration open for MetroWest Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Natick

Registration has opened for the MetroWest Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Natick, a fundraiser aimed at fighting suicide.

A virtual event dubbed Celebration of Hope takes place Nov. 6 for those not ready for an in-person event, and the 3.5-mile Out of the Darkness Community Walk is an in-person event scheduled for Oct. 17 at Natick Common from 10am-noon.

There’s no fee to participate, though walkers are encouraged to raise at least $150 in donations.

The events are designed to help people open up about their connections to the cause, and find support through others.

Volunteers sought for Natick purple flag display recalling lives lost to opioids

SOAR Natick is seeking volunteers to help set up the annual purple flag display on the lawn at First Congregational Church in Natick Center. The flags serve as reminders of lives lost to the opioid epidemic in Massachusetts—2,014 last year.

Volunteers are needed on Sunday, Aug. 29 starting at 3pm. Red flags are available to those who want to recognize individuals.

Displays are also being assembled in Newton and Boston.

COVID-19 vaccines available at Natick Farmers Market this Saturday

In among the granola, honey, cheese, and other goodies available at this Saturday’s Natick Farmers Market will be your pick of COVID-19 vaccines. The market is open 9am-1pm at Natick Common.

The Natick Health Department has joined forces with V-Care pharmacy to distribute your choice of Moderna, Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

Natick has surpassed 86% of its eligible residents being fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
