No more free parking in Natick—the holidays must really be over

January 2, 2022 by Deborah Brown Leave a Comment

It’s been fun, but as of Mon., Jan. 3rd, visitors who want to shop and dine in Natick Center will have to pay to park. Meters in the downtown area have since late November been decked out in red plastic hoods to indicate that parking was free for up to two hours. The idea was to encourage a strong holiday crowd presence in the area. With 2022 rolling in, the meters’ holiday finery has been stripped away, leaving them to face a cold winter without a thing to wear.

Happy trails, Happy New Year in Natick

January 1, 2022 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

A big crowd turned out for the first New Year’s Eve celebration along the Cochituate Rail Trail in Natick, with lots of families, dogs, fire pits, and even a bit of poetry along the way.

The Morse Institute Library, Friends of Natick Trails, and other organizations made for fun pit stops along the way, doling out popcorn, small gifts, and cider.

A great way to send 2021 on its way and welcome 2022.

South Natick Dam yule log spotted

December 26, 2021 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Thanks to sharp-eyed Margaret, who shared this action shot of the South Natick dam “yule log,” a timely photo in light of the Christmas holiday.

Yule Log at the Waterfall(1)

The waterfall (aka, spillway) at the South Natick Dam has a reputation for snagging logs in its clutches, and triggering log watches as a result. One recent log watch lasted for about half a year.

The days of log watches could be numbered as Natick figures out what’s going to happen to the dam, which is need of repair and may be ditched to save the town money and address environmental concerns.

Christmas tree disposal in Natick

December 26, 2021 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Natick Public Works will pick up Christmas trees during the first two full weeks of January on your trash day.

They must be bare (i.e., no decorations, no lights, and not in a plastic bag) and placed at curbside.

Another option for tree disposal: Unity Farm Sanctuary in Sherborn will take your trees for its goats and cows.
