Natick DPW welcomes all to Open House & Truck Day

May 23, 2022 by Deborah Brown Leave a Comment

The Natick Department of Public Works welcomed one and all to an Open House and Truck Day event at the 75 West Street facility. By the 10am start time, throngs of kids, their grown-ups, and other truck enthusiasts were lined up and ready to see and touch dump trucks, excavators, front-end loaders, and more. A crafts table kept the creative juices flowing, popcorn kept the energy going, and DPW staff was on hand to answer questions and run demos of systems and equipment at the free event.

Our early candidate for Natick Little League MVP

April 30, 2022 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

This kid from the Nationals took the lead in the Natick Little League MVP race when he got a couple of Canada Geese to leave the mound before the game. This resulted in a flyover being added to the morning’s festivities following the parade.

Play Ball! Natick Little League holds first parade in 4 years

April 30, 2022 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Natick Little League officially kicked off the town’s youth baseball and softball seasons on Saturday morning with its first parade in four years, brightening the streets of South Natick with colorful uniforms and sparkling bats.

The past few parades have been nixed either due to rain or COVID-19, so kids and families were only too happy to brave a chilly start to the day with a little pomp & circumstance at Hunnewell Fields, then some games.

While the games officially began with the shouting of “Play Ball!” by one of the Natick High School varsity baseball players, it really began when one of the Little League officials asked before the first pitch “Does anybody have a glove?” Now that’s the Little League I remember…

And then there was the early favorite for league MVP that we discovered.

About 600 kids are participating in Natick Little League this season, according to Executive Director Matt Lodi. Thanks to all the volunteers for helping the not-for-profit league do what it does.

Enjoy a Saturday morning of art, architecture, history, and food in Natick Center

April 6, 2022 by Deborah Brown Leave a Comment

Have you ever been curious about what’s on the upper floors of the iconic 11 S. Main St. building in Natick Center? You know the one, the four-story brick structure that Bagel Table calls home. Well, your chance to venture to the third floor happens on Saturday, April 9am-11am at an Arts Open House. (The space is not accessible and can be reached only via stairs.)

First, enjoy musical and dance performances and visual art displays featuring artists from the Natick Public Schools and various programs in town. While you’re appreciating the young artists, take time to ooh and ahh over the 135-year-old building’s interiors with its high ceilings, beautiful tin tiles, and arched windows. It’s a morning of the arts, architecture, and history, all without leaving town.

From there, stop by the Natick Farmers Market, with food and gifts vendors upstairs and downstairs in the Common Street Spiritual Center, and farmer and meats & fish purveyors in the back parking lot. The Market takes place every Saturday, 9am-11am.

The whole shebang that is the Farmers Market will move entirely outside onto the Natick Common in early May.

Young entrepreneurs show their stuff at the Natick Children’s Business Fair

February 24, 2022 by Deborah Brown 2 Comments

Natick’s entrepreneurial kids rolled up their sleeves and presented their very own startup business ideas at the Natick Children’s Business Fair marketplace event at the Common Street Spiritual Center last weekend. Customers went from table to table to view the results of participants’ work developing a brand, creating a product or service, building a marketing strategy, and finally opening for business. Items for sale included cupcakes and other baked goods; handcrafted jewelry; bookmarks; knitted hats; and more. Business ideas such as babysitting and athletics classes were represented as well.

Thanks to the Fair’s organizers for the following pics:
