Natick Aldi store the site of armed robbery

December 9, 2020 by Deborah Brown Leave a Comment

The Natick Police responded to 911 calls on Wednesday shortly before 12:30pm, “for what was reported as an armed robbery to one of the commercial businesses in the area.” The police oddly didn’t name Aldi as the target in their Facebook post, referring to it merely as a commercial business in the Rte. 30/Speen Street area.

Aldi, Natick

But news outlets, including MetroWest Daily News, reported that the robbery took place at the Natick Aldi store, which opened last month in the Cloverleaf Mall.

Officers and Detectives from the Natick PD, with assistance from Framingham PD, The Massachusetts State Police and Weston PD K-9 used camera footage and good old-fashioned police work, and had the suspect tracked down and placed under arrest shortly after the robbery.

The investigation is ongoing.

A quick google and social media search shows that Aldis around the world have been popular robbery targets, with stories popping up about incidents from the U.K. to Australia to New York.

Natick crews respond to Union Street water main break

November 2, 2020 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Natick’s Water Division crews responded Monday night to a break in a 10″ diameter water main on Union Street, and police have the road blocked off near Rte. 16. Good thing there’s not an emergency room on that street anymore.

But the water main break did mean a temporary water service shutdown from Morse Lane to South Natick center while the main was being repaired. Water was seen streaming down the hill to the intersection at Rte. 16.

The Water/Sewer Division doesn’t know the cause of the break, but the main was installed in 1925, says Supervisor. The crews repaired the main and had the water back on by 3am Tuesday.

Fortunately the temperature wasn’t supposed to get too much below high 30s overnight or we might have been looking at a super slippery hill.

South Natick hasn’t been able to catch a break lately. A couple of weeks back a driver smashed into a utility pole on Rte. 16 (Eliot Street) and knocked out power in the same area for the night.

Natick Police: Get yer touchless trick-or-treat candy chute while they last

October 28, 2020 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

The Natick Police Department is making touchless trick-or-treat chutes available for free to residents thanks to a donation from a resident and the Maine medical equipment company he works for.

The chutes come courtesy of Natick’s Dave Gill and the company he works for, REOS Medical.

Natick’s Health Department has issued guidelines on having a safe Halloween, citing Centers for Disease Control protocols.

According to the police, the cardboard chutes are 3 inches in diameter and 6-feet long, and come decorated with glow-in-the-dark tape and are packaged with tongs for socially distanced candy distribution.

They will be available for pick up at the Natick Police Department on Friday. Anyone interested can contact watkins@natickpolice.com.

Lt. Carla Rossi is also encouraging those you snag them to send photos of their decorated tubes at rossi@natickpolice.com to be entered to win a prize, possibly delivered via police car lit up and making noise.

Of course we’ve been prototyping our own fancy system since mid-September.
