Join the Natick Historical Society Collections Committee on Saturday, March 16, 11am, at the Natick History Museum, 58 Eliot St., for a conversation about repatriation and return of Native American cultural items in small museums.
José Vilahomat, Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Curatorial Assistant, Peabody Museum at Harvard University, will discuss the Act, which was signed into law in 1990. NAGPRA provides a process for federal agencies and museums that receive federal funds to repatriate or transfer from their collections certain Native American cultural items.
Natick History Museum Executive Director Niki Lefebvre will share some examples from the Museum’s collections.
Advanced registration is required—space is limited.
