Public reading of the 10 Commandments in celebration of Shavuot
To mark the Jewish Festival of Shavuot, the Jewish community in Natick and the Metrowest will gather for a public reading of the 10 Commandments on Friday, May 22. The reading will be done from a handwritten Torah scroll at Chabad Center of Natick-Metrowest.
There will be two opportunities on Friday to hear the reading:
- The first will take place at 11:30 am, followed by a dairy luncheon.
- A second reading will be held at 5:45 PM, together with a Shavuot Family Event featuring activities, ice cream, and a dessert buffet, as well as for anyone unable to attend the earlier reading.
Shavuot, which begins at sunset on Thursday, May 21 and concludes at nightfall on Saturday, May 23, commemorates the Jewish People’s receiving the 10 Commandments and the Torah from G-d at Mount Sinai 3,338 years ago.

The Chabad Center of Natick-Metrowest will also host a Yizkor memorial service on May 23 at 11:30 am. Yizkor is a traditional memorial prayer recited by those who’ve experienced the loss of an immediate family member, and is a very meaningful part of the Shavuot holiday.
