SUMMARY:Check out Natick Center Concert Hall in Clark's Block building
DESCRIPTION:A group seeking to restore the beautiful but unused Concert Hall on the third floor of Natick’s downtown Clark’s Block building is opening the space on March 22 for self-guided public tours for the first time in decades. The event is technically free\, but is designed to encourage people to contribute to a $29\,000 fundraising effort to conduct a feasibility study for restoring a pace that was once the heart of Natick’s social scene. \nConcert Hall\, located on the 3rd floor of the Clark’s Block building\, was once the heart of the Natick social scene and hosted galas\, dances\, concerts\, plays\, exhibitions\, lectures and other special events from 1874 to the 1930s. Over the last 85 years\, this town treasure has sat unused for its intended purpose and abandoned as a hauntingly beautiful ruin. Now\, the Friends of Concert Hall group is seeking to restore this 150 year old forgotten space and resurrect what has been lost. \nDue to the current condition of the space\, only adults 18+ may attend this event. To attend\, enter the Clark’s Block building at the Main Street entrance between Optica and Orange Theory. Follow the signs to take the stairs to Concert Hall on the 3rd floor. Elevators are available upon request. \nFor questions about this event or how to make a donation\, please email: friendsofconcerthall@gmail.com \n\nNatick Report hasn’t quite been around for 150 years\, but with your support we can keep it going. Please contribute what you can or consider becoming an advertising partner.

SUMMARY:Who Framed Rosa Parks?: The Media Representation and Legacy of a Civil Rights Icon (online program)
DESCRIPTION:From Natick Historical Society: \nIn the popular narrative\, Rosa Parks is a work-weary seamstress whose “tired feet” compelled her to break character and single-handedly launch the modern civil rights movement. For over two decades now\, historians have been writing against the conception of Parks as an accidental activist. Still\, the symbolic version of Parks persists and fuels larger myths about the civil rights movement. In this presentation\, Dr Greer explores how Parks’ media representation encouraged an iconic image that\, while celebratory and inspiring\, is at odds with her record fighting Jim Crow and its many abuses and informs current day notions about black protest. \nDr. Brenna Greer\, Historian\, Wellesley College \nThis event will be held online\, via Zoom. SUMMARY:Talk on “Henry Wilson: Natick’s Mark on the Nation”
DESCRIPTION:Natick’s Lincoln Anniballi will give a free talk titled “Henry Wilson: Natick’s Mark on the Nation” on Sunday\, July 30 from 4-5pm at Natick Historical Society’s History Museum at 58 Eliot St. \nFrom the Historical Society: A lifelong resident of Natick\, the home town of Henry Wilson\, Lincoln Anniballi grew up in the Henry Wilson Historic District\, lived on the same road Wilson did\, drove past the Henry Wilson Shoe Shop every day\, and even went to Wilson Middle School\, yet knew very little about the person whose name was all over town. In 2020 Lincoln began researching Wilson’s life and in 2021 got the idea to turn his research into a biographical podcast on the life of Henry Wilson. A student of political science and history at Hofstra University\, Anniballi has spent much of his free time researching and producing “Henry Wilson & the Civil War.”   \nParticipants are invited to join the Natick Historical Society for a summer gathering at 5pm in Shaw Park following the talk. \nAdvanced registration is required to secure your spot in the museum. \nMore:  Happy birthday to Natick’s own Henry Wilson\, 20th vice president of the United States (February\, 2023)
