Natick COVID-19 update: number of cases; Recycling Center extends hours; spring hydrant flushing

Natick’s total COVID-19 cases number at 75 active confirmed cases as of April 13.

Cases removed from quarantine/isolation number 43. The total number of cases since March 1 is 118.

The total number of confirmed cases in Middlesex County since March 1 is 5,983. The total number of Massachusetts confirmed cases is 26,867.

Keeping things tidy

Curbside recycling and trash/composting pick-up remains operating on a regular schedule.

Bulk pick-up and pink bag pick-up are currently suspended.

The Recycling Center, located at 75 West St., will extend its hours beginning April 16th to Thursday – Sunday, 8am – 3:30pm.

Spring hydrant flushing schedule is down the drain

Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Natick Department of Public Works Water/Sewer Division has implemented precautionary measures to protect the health and safety of essential staff that operate and maintain the public drinking water supply and sanitary sewer systems. These actions are intended to mitigate potential exposure to employees and customers and maintain continuity of operations.

As part of these modified operations, the Department of Public Work’s Hydrant Flushing Program is cancelled for this Spring. The Department’s efforts from previous flushing cycles will mitigate any impacts of postponing flushing this Spring.  Hydrant flushing will resume in the Fall.  Please contact 508-647-6557 if you have any questions or concerns.

Happy Easter, Natick. We’re all home for this one, but put on your Easter bonnet anyway and attend services or mass remotely. Most Christian houses of worship have been doing this for at least a couple of weeks now, so religious leaders are in good practice.

Natick Historical Society needs your pandemic perspective

The Natick Historical Society knows rule number one about history, and that is: history is happening right now.

The 150-year old organization has just launched Natick Shares: COVID-19 Community Archive Project.

Director Nikki Lefebvre says, “History is not only about what happened in the past; it is also the stories we live everyday. Right now we are all experiencing an unprecedented event that will be discussed and studied for decades, even centuries, to come. Let’s make sure that Natick’s story — your story — is remembered.”

The Society is calling on you to share your experiences today so that future scholars, historians, researchers, and Natick residents will have the opportunity to understand the impact of COVID-19 on the Natick community.

Sharing is caring

The Society’s goal is to collect and preserve a broad range of documents and images that capture how Natick residents are experiencing this defining moment. The “Share Your Story” form includes many questions to help you think about what to share, but we also encourage you to use your creativity. Whether it is something that you create or document — an image, story, or letter— we welcome your contributions.

What to share:

  • Personal or community engagement stories

  • Essays, poetry and other writings

  • Photographs

  • Diary or journal entries

  • Artwork

  • Blogs and social media posts (i.e. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.)

  • Memes

Who can share?

People of all ages who live, work, or are otherwise experiencing COVID-19 in Natick are encouraged to share. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to help share children’s experiences.

Natick Board of Health has got an eye on you

The Natick Board of Health has authorized Natick staff to patrol all public school fields, the Natick High School Memorial fields and track; the Coolidge Ball Courts; and the Kennedy Middle School parking lot and to disperse groups who congregate at these spots.

Individuals respecting social distancing may continue to shoot hoops and to use the track. Groups may not play basketball or run/walk together.

Staff will visit these areas and dispel groups as necessary.
