Natick Business Buzz: Boyd’s Auto Service closing after 15 years; new plans for One Main Street; ex-garage site on Rte. 9 available for many wondrous developments

Our roundup of the latest Natick business news:

Boyd’s Auto Service closing after 15 years

We were surprised to receive a message from Boyd’s Auto Service & Mobil that they’d be closing their doors for the last time after 15 years on Dec. 31. They’d recently installed new pumps at the 78 North Main St., location.

We asked Kerry McComiskey Boyd about why the owners are moving on: “An opportunity has come into play and we are starting a new Chapter. The gas station will be open for business under the distributor’s guidance. There as so many memories, mostly the customers that have become friends, the local kids that have started their careers here at Boyd’s Auto Service and Mobil and become successful in their lives. We want to thank everyone that believed in us and trusted us.”

New plans for One Main Street

The MetroWest Daily News reports that the owner of One South Main Street, the Natick Center business block ravaged by a fire during the summer of 2019, has new plans. He’s now talking about a one-story village that could contain a bunch of pop-ups and artist studios. Quite a change from the previously proposed two-story mixed use building of apartments and business/office space.

Plans could be aired at a Planning Board meeting on Jan. 6. The property owner has canceled a handful of previously planned appearances before that board.

206 Worcester St. still on the market

206 Worcester St., a brightly pained former service station that has been out of action for some time on Rte. 9, is being “offered on an ‘as-is, where-is’ basis and without a formal asking price.” The over-the-top listing for this 1,720 sq. ft. property built in 1950 touts the 0.43-acre site’s development potential for everything from condos to a restaurant to a dealership to hospitality.  Though the property is listed as being zoned for residential-single.

“206 Worcester St is ideally positioned for redevelopment and represents a rare opportunity to build in one of Greater Boston’s best communities and primary corridors,” the listing gushes. We reached out to the Colliers International realtor for more info, but have not heard back.
