I had to abort my Pickerel Pond bridge walk in Natick, but at least spied an owl

September 10, 2026 by Bob Brown

Curious to see the new metal bridge across Pickerel Pond in Natick, I headed over mid-day on Thursday and found the structure cordoned off with caution tape and plastic fencing (I’m not one to document my transgressions in photos or videos… so checked it out from the edge).

Plans were for construction to take place starting in August, and an opening in the fall.

Oh well.

But on the way back, I spotted a barred owl in a tree. Well actually, another walker spotted it and pointed it out to me. Good eye, and another win for getting outdoors.

When I read your headline I interpreted it as the decision to install the walkway was aborted. Clever misdirection.

No intentional misdirection there, probably should have written that more clearly, but glad it was effective

As Stevey Wonder once sang, isn’t she lovely, isn’t she wonderful.
Talking about the bridge, not the owl

This click-baity title draws undue attention from the community, as it is so easily interpreted as the bridge walkway PROJECT being aborted. It is either intentionally vague and ambiguous (boo!) or should be changed to clarify imho.

Hi Todd, yes, coulda been worded better…wasn’t intentional…I reworded since you weren’t only person to point this out. thanks, Bob
